I grew up in a small town of 1000 people in Central Illinois. I was an active child but always struggled with my weight. My family was not really into exercise so that wasn't part of our daily routine. As a teenager, I found an old exercise bike and VCR with exercise videos in our basement and set up a small gym. I also started running around the neighborhood at that time as well. I continued running in college for pleasure and added weight training to keep my stress in check. After graduation from college, I began doing running races and triathlons with my co-workers. From that point on, fitness and nutrition became a very important part of my life. When I found Kingman CrossFit, I knew that was the place I was meant to be. I found a whole gym full of people who had the same interests in fitness and nutrition. Now as a coach, I can share that with others to help them achieve their fitness and nutrition goals.
My turning point in my life was after getting divorced in my late 30's with 2 young boys. It was at this time that I learned I could achieve anything that I truly put my heart into. At the time, I was in the middle of my doctorate and it would have been very easy to give up on that dream. I decided that I had set out to complete this goal and that nothing was going to stop me. When I saw the looks on my boys' faces when I walked across that stage, I knew it was all worth it. Since that time, I have continued to set goals and put my heart into achieving them. Opening my physical therapy practice and becoming a CrossFit coach are just two examples of ways I push and challenge myself to be better.
Over my 29 years as a physical therapist, I have seen all kinds of injuries including those that occurred during CrossFit. I realized that having well-trained coaches (like we do at Kingman CrossFit) who are focused on proper form significantly reduces those risks. When I joined CrossFit, I realized that my expertise as a therapist would be very helpful as a CrossFit coach. As a coach, I focus on proper form as well as helping athletes with injuries stay safe in the gym. I have seen the huge benefits of having CrossFit and the CrossFit community in my life and I want everyone to experience that too!
